My name is Ryan Eaid and I'm an illustrator/character designer born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Ever since I was old enough to hold a pencil I've loved drawing, painting, and really anything involved with the creation of imagery. I think what drew me to it (pun firmly intended) is how I can take an image in my mind and bring it to life right before my eyes. This is what lead me to pursue illustration and character design at Alberta College of Art and Design in 2014. I'm also an alumnus of the University of Calgary, with a bachelor's degree and drama. during my time there I learned a lot about storytelling and I like to bring that into my work.
The themes I most love to explore both in my own work and the work of others include Mythology (especially of the Norse variety), fantasy, science fiction, and horror. I suppose I like these kinds of stories because they allow one to travel to words beyond our dry daily lives of deadlines, jobs, household chores etc. and into vivid worlds of explosive imagination.
I'm also an avid metalhead! My favourite bands include Amon Amarth, Sabaton, Powerwolf, Alien Weaponry, Warkings, Tyr, Brothers of Metal, Manowar, Metallica, Tengger Cavalry, Windrose, Wizard, and Wolftooth, just to name a few. In case it wasn't obvious, Metal has had a massive influence on my work and one of my career goals is to do art for bands to use in their promotions and merchandise.
When I'm not chained to my work table, I enjoy playing video games, watching movies, working out, going for walks, going to the mall, and going to the zoo, all of course with my beautiful girlfriend and our pets.
